The Insane and Bodacious Project World of Kit Fox

I’ve been nice about this for years, but I’m ‘bout to get pissed off.  Possibly because Tumblr now gives me access to more girl friends who will get pissed off with me.  (Thanks, gals.)

I’m no hottie, but there was a time, when I worked at a record/comic shop that I got a lot of attention from guys that I didn’t want.  It was a daily hassle, and they weren’t always polite, and sometimes a “fuck off” worked better than a “no thanks”, but both responses seemed to make them think I was still interested.  Either way, it was that age-old problem chicks run into: they don’t want to be your friend.

One of these guys, a guy I thought all this time was a genuine pal who I liked and respected and was totally cool with, once went with me to see Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  We had fun and though nothing romantic came of it, we didn’t treat each other any differently afterward.  He recently put up a little blurb on his Facebook that said “Women fall for what they hear, men fall for what they see.  That’s why men lie and women wear makeup.”  I thought it was dumb and unjustly cynical, but all I said was, “Jeez, is this why we never saw Ninja Turtles 2?”

He responded, “You mean after you mega-snubbed me?  I was always wondering which of the 101 unspoken rules I broke…”

I was pretty pissed.  I never snubbed him, and I’m certainly not one of those girls that has a laundry list of secret shit a guy has to do to impress me.  If he had a problem or if he wanted to hang out again, it was on him to say something about it, not leave me feeling like everything was cool while he was harboring resentment.

I wrote back and said that I had always treated him as my friend because I thought he was cool, and that this was the first I was hearing of any of this.  It’s disappointing in so many ways to think that he’s just another guy who didn’t want to be my friend.  It was as if friendship was worse than a consolation prize, it was Loserville.  How should girls feel about that?

The Boyfriend may be the only guy I’ve ever known who wanted to be my friend AND jump in the sack with me.  He’s always said the friends thing comes first.  And for some reason he still wonders why I picked him.
